The only members who are initiated into the mysteries of the faith are those who demonstrate extreme piety, devotion and the correct demeanor. The initiated (uqqal; sing., aqil) are a very small minority and may include women. Most Druze, however, remain juhhal, or ignorant ones. The Druze religion is rather complex, and involves a combination of neo-Platonic thought, Sufi mysticism, and Iranian religious traditions.

I have included stories that give some insight of prominent Druze noted for their pious ways. The stories I have included are about the initiated (uqqal; sing., aqil) who are among a very small minority of the Druze and include women.  These pious people’s lives reflect the culture and the traditions of Druze the world over.
